Ciryl Gane defeats Jairzinho Rozenstruik and wins on points at UFC Las Vegas 20

Heavyweight prospect fights intelligently and controls the Surinamese's aggression in the main fight this Saturday

Promise of Ultimate in heavyweight (up to 120,2kg.), Cyryl Gane has proven that he is a name to watch for the organization. In the main fight of UFC Las Vegas 20, held this Saturday (27), in the United States, the Frenchman had no problems against the dangerous Jairzinho Rozenstruik and easily passed through Surinamese. After nullifying his rival for five rounds, the combatant was declared the winner in a unanimous decision by the judges.

With the positive result, Gane officially reaches the top 5 in the category led by Stipe Miocic. In addition to beating one of the most feared names in the group, the Frenchman extends his unbeaten record in MMA. Now, the athlete has eight consecutive victories.

Rozenstruik entered the Octagon to defend his fourth position in the rankings and get closer to a future title fight. The Surinamese, however, was unable to impose his physical strength and was easy prey for his opponent's movement. With the setback, Jairzinho suffered the second defeat of his career.

The fight

The confrontation began with Rozenstruik delivering a right cross, which went empty. Gane tried to find the best distance and avoid his opponent's attacks. Jairzinho tried to surround the Frenchman, but Ciryl was moving around the octagon a lot. Avoiding a fatal error, the athletes saved their strikes and studied themselves in the center of the battle arena. Gane started to score in the confrontation with jabs and kicks to the Surinamese's body. Jairzinho kept the right bomb cocked, but the opponent didn't give the 'giant' any space. Near the final minute, Ciryl looked for his opponent's legs and attempted a takedown. Rozenstruik defended himself, but was pressed against the bars. In the final seconds, Gane managed to take down his rival, but there was no more time.

In the second stage, Gane returned with good movement, trying to confuse Jairzinho. With jabs, the Frenchman continued to score, while Rozenstruik saved his attacks. With an advantage in the confrontation, Ciryl kept his opponent at bay with low kicks. The Surinamese risked combinations, but Gane impressed with his reaction speed. Near the final minute, the Frenchman took down his opponent again and threatened a rear naked choke. Jairzinho managed to explode and left the position. The assault ended without much action from the athletes.

The third round started with Ciryl controlling the distance well with low kicks. Jairzinho continued to struggle to touch his opponent. The Frenchman landed a clean high kick to the Surinamese's face, who smiled, implying that he didn't feel the blow. Close to the middle of the round, Gane connected with a cross to his opponent's face, but the Surinamese absorbed the attack well. As the minutes passed, the Frenchman continued to have the advantage, scoring with jabs and kicks. Rozenstruik continued trying to land a blow, but the attacks went by in vain. The stage ended with Gane looking for his rival's leg, but the timer ran to zero.

Gane returned for the penultimate round connecting jabs to Jairzinho's face. As in previous attacks, the Frenchman continued to control the distance well and prevented the Surinamese's attacks. Twice, Ciryl missed an attack on his opponent's legs and was almost caught in his opponent's counterattacks. While the Frenchman continued to score, Jairzinho was not in the fight. After almost four minutes, Jairzinho connected with a cross to his opponent's face and Ciryl responded in kind. In the final seconds, the Frenchman surrounded his opponent and attacked with jabs and straight shots. Rozenstruik was moving, but was unable to develop his game. The assault ended with the Surinamese throwing a cross into the void.

In the last round, Rozenstruik needed a knockout or submission to win the fight. Gane dictated the rules of the duel and continued to score with jabs and kicks to his opponent's body. After a minute, the Frenchman went into a grappling fight and pressed his rival against the bars. Jairzinho exploded and managed to get away from his opponent. Ciryl continued walking forward and hit the Surinamese with ease. With two minutes remaining, Gane got back to grips with his opponent and managed the time. In the final seconds, the Frenchman took down his opponent, who got up, but Ciryl remained 'glued' to the Surinamese. The duel ended with the athletes on the bars.
