After the harsh defeat suffered by Alexander Volkov in the main fight of UFC Las Vegas 18, held on Saturday (6), alistair overeem It will probably be left with eternal marks from the confrontation. After being severely knocked out in the second round by his rival, the Dutchman left the Octagon with his face completely bloodied. With the setback, the veteran practically said goodbye to his dream of the heavyweight belt.

During fight week, Overeem spoke openly about his retirement. Close to turning 41, the Pride, K-1 and Strikeforce legend admitted that he would not like to be an athlete who 'pushes' his career. The confrontation against Volkov, then, meant the opportunity to take another step in the 'last race' for the unprecedented UFC title.
In the fight, however, what we saw was a fragile Dutchman who accepted the punishment imposed by his rival eight years younger with some ease. Easy prey to the Russian's powerful hands, Overeem was punished for much of the first round.
Alexander's strong actions culminated in a devastating knockout in the second stage, when the veteran collapsed after a straight shot and the referee interrupted the confrontation.
