In the dispute between 'giants', Alexander Volkov got the better of the veteran alistair overeem. In the main fight UFC Las Vegas 18, held this Saturday (6), in the United States, the Russian took no notice of the heavyweight legend (up to 120,2kg) and starred in strong scenes in the Octagon. With precise strikes, Volkov needed two rounds to brutalize the Dutchman with a devastating knockout.

When they entered the octagon, Alexander and Alistair fought a duel with an eye on a future title fight. With the positive result, Volkov should be included in the top 5 of the group led by Stipe Miocic and takes an important step towards achieving the dream of the title.
Close to 41 years old, Overeem ended up being stopped in his dream of occupying the highest position in a UFC category. Since 2020, the Dutchman has stated that this would be the 'last race' for the strap. After the setback, the Dutchman must decide whether he will continue fighting or leave the sport with a defeat.
The fight
The confrontation began with Volkov taking the initiative with a low kick that knocked the Dutchman off balance. The Russian repeated the action, while Overeem protected himself. Alexander continued walking forward, while Alistair looked for the best moment to attack. Overeem managed to land a direct shot on his rival's face, but the Russian absorbed the blow well. Volkov cocked his right hand and Alistair tried to avoid his opponent's actions. The veteran hit his opponent again with a good right punch, but Alexander managed a counterattack that took the Dutchman to the ground. Overeem got up quickly, but started to be hit frequently by his opponent. In the final seconds, the Russian punished the veteran with a series of punches, but there was no more time.
In the second stage, Volkov returned more aggressive, with a clean right to the face of Overeem, who already had a very injured face. The Dutchman tried to close the distance, but the greater wingspan favored the Russian. Alistair held the guard, but his opponent continued connecting the best blows. In the middle of the round, a Russian cross shook the veteran, but Overeem showed courage and sought to take the fight down. After another accurate blow, Alistair collapsed and the referee did not allow the confrontation to continue.
