A situation caused apprehension in the confrontation that closed the preliminary card of the UFC Las Vegas 18, held this Saturday (6), in the United States. In a fight promoted at catchweight, Justin Jayne was prevented from continuing his fight against Devont Smith due to an impressive swelling in his eye. The incident happened in the second round and declared Smith's victory by technical knockout.

In the fight, Smith had the advantage from the first round. The athlete was close to achieving a submission with a rear naked choke, but Jayne managed to free himself.
At one point, the referee stopped the match to assess Jayne's left eye, which was completely closed. Seeking to maintain the fighter's integrity, the professional decided to end the duel.
In addition to the injury, Jayne ended up having complications in the UFC. The athlete suffered the third negative result in a row and could be on the dreaded layoff list.
Smith, in turn, recovered from the setback he suffered to Khama Worthy, in August 2019. Now, the fighter has three positive results in four commitments in the organization.
