Conor McGregor 'forgets' Dustin Poirier and provokes Khabib for rematch

Back in the octagon at UFC 257, the Irishman doesn't forget his biggest rival and accuses the Russian of running away from another confrontation; champion retired in October 2020

Close to his return to the Octagon, Conor McGregor is more than focused on getting the dream rematch against Khabib Nurmagomedov. Opponent of Dustin poirier No. UFC 257, the Irishman 'forgot' next Saturday's opponent (23) and only has eyes for his biggest rival, who announced his retirement in October 2020. In an interview with 'ESPN', the 'Notorious' accused the Russian of running away from a rematch and provoked him in his best style.

“I think he's scared to fight me, for sure. I don't blame him. I know exactly what he has to face. I fought the best of him that night and he fought the worst of me. He knows this, I know this and his team knows this. I have the answer to destroy this guy”, said the Irishman.

Conor's dream, however, comes up against the issue that Khabib is still firm in his decision to leave the sport. When he made the decision, besides the death of his father (who passed away in July), the Russian said he had no opponents that would motivate him to step into the Octagon. McGregor then fired a shot at the current lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg).

“I think his hand is showing that he's not a real fighter, in my opinion. I mean, how could you retire? How can you leave? There are so many fights to be had. Think about (Nate) Diaz, (Tony) Ferguson, (Charles) Oliveira, the rematch with me. I think it's absurd for him to leave”, concluded 'Notório'.

McGregor and Khabib had a fight that marked an epoch in MMA. In 2018, the Irishman and the Russian broke records in the clash that is today the most watched in the history of the sport. On that occasion, at UFC 229, the 'Águia' emerged victorious after submitting Conor in the fourth round.
