Pezão provokes Overeem: “He hits like a lion, but he catches like a kitten”

After achieving his first UFC victory in November, the Brazilian Antonio Pezão is scheduled to face a tough opponent at the beginning of 2013. He faces the Dutchman alistair overeem at UFC 156, an event that takes place on February 2, in Las Vegas. And the rival is an old rival of the Brazilian heavyweight, who always questions his opponent's conduct.

As usual, Pezão made a point of starting the traditional game of words and provocations. In an interview with “Beat 98” radio, the native of Paraíba stated that the Dutchman's enormous gain in muscle mass in recent years does not scare him and that he does not have a fighting spirit.

“They improved his (Overeem) technical side, gave him strength, gave him muscles, but nobody gives you one thing, because you are already born with it, which is the fighting spirit, the warrior's heart. No one teaches that, no one can give you that. So, let's go after him and I know that, when things get tough there, he will take a step back and think better. He's a lion when he's punching, but when a hand comes in, when things start to get tight, he turns into a kitten. Let's work on this mentality, let's work on this aim to put on a good fight”, said Pezão, who hopes to decide the duel through physical preparation.

“I think what will decide this fight will be physical resistance, stamina, whoever is physically well, whoever is better in this part will stand out, it will be the starting point for this fight”, analyzed the Brazilian who hopes to use the solo fight to win the contest.

“Basically, I think I have to continue the work I've been doing. I came from jiu-jitsu, but it's not like I can't do a stand-up fight against him. The strategy, of course, is to put them down and try to end the fight on the ground. But a fight is a fight and, at the moment, everything can change and, who knows, some blows could come in and end up on top”, he concluded.
