Despite starting his career in the UFC with a defeat, Carlos Boi He wasn't shaken and is so willing to turn his career around that he returned to the octagon quickly. The Brazilian, who debuted in the organization in July 2020, will make his second appearance against yorgan de castro, on Saturday (03), in Abu Dhabi, and hopes to change the public's impression of him.

In an exclusive interview to SUPER FIGHTS, in addition to analyzing his opponent, the heavyweight (120,2kg) spoke about the experience of acting, once again, on the famous 'Ilha da Luta', told how the rivalry with Sergey Spivac arose and gave his opinion on the 'sarrada' controversy in Israel adesanya em Paulo borrachinha, UFC 253.

Abu Dhabi Veteran

If the invitation to play on 'Ilha da Luta' is a dream for many athletes, Carlos Boi can boast. The Brazilian is new to the UFC, but he is a veteran in Abu Dhabi, having made his debut and will be having his second fight in the same location. Knowing the long journey and the high temperature, Boi informed that he arrived in advance so as not to be surprised by external factors.

“To tell you the truth, I didn’t expect it. I was surprised when they offered me this fight. I had challenged Big Baby. This time, I came more prepared. I arrived a week early to adapt better. I even trained outside the hotel, in the middle of the day. If I can handle intense training in this heat, I'm ready to fight even in the desert sand,” he said.

Fight against Yorgan de Castro

Generally, when there are heavyweights in the octagon, the expectation is that the fight will be brutal and Boi not only agrees with the label, but also believes that this will be the best fight of the night. Brazilians see similarities with yorgan de castro and cited a positive point from the opponent.

“This fight will be bloody. We are aggressive exchangers and have similar characteristics. Our height is small for the heavyweights, but we have more speed. I believe it has everything to be the fight of the night. He has good low kicks and quick crosses, but that's the story: he won't fight a guy with no legs. I have one to shoot and block. The difference is who can take more hits”, he analyzed.

Defeat for Spivac and criticism on the internet

Despite having lost his unbeaten record in his UFC debut, Boi handled the defeat well and preferred to give Sergey Spivac merits rather than excuses.

“I did everything I could. The merit has to be given to him. Many said that I felt the pressure of the debut, but that wasn't it. You have to have your feet on the ground to admit that your opponent was better. I think I won the first two rounds. He had a hard time, but came back well in the third. I didn't see it as a defeat. For me, it was a draw, but I'm not holding on to that. It’s water under the bridge”, he admitted.

Just like many Brazilian athletes receive harsh criticism when defeated, Boi was the target of fans' anger online. However, he didn't bother because he doesn't have time to waste on that kind of comment.

“I don’t care much. I don't care about the lives of those who support it. I call those who support me. Many created fake profiles to criticize me, but I don't care. It goes in one ear and out the other. What I want is to make a lot of money and fight. I don't depend on other people's opinions. I really appreciate those who like me and I fight for the people who like my work. Anyone who is against it, unfortunately, will have to put up with me”, he pointed out.

Confusion and desire for revenge

If Boi had no problem accepting defeat, the same cannot be said about Spivac's provocations. The Brazilian clarified that he is not the villain of the story, as many might imagine, and explained what caused the animosity.

“Many criticized me for the discussion, but they don't know what goes on behind the scenes. The week of the fight, he walked past me with the team, looking and laughing. I got angry, took it to heart and discounted the provocations. If he was a man to provoke off camera, he should be a man to maintain his posture in the octagon. When the fight was over, he acted like a poor thing. When they gave him the victory, I got upset, I turned my back and, the next thing I knew, he was blowing a kiss and talking, so I went at it”, he revealed.

After what happened, the rematch is part of the Brazilian's plans, who can't wait to return the favor.

"No doubt! One day we will meet again. It may not be now, but we will definitely fight again. I will discount it with interest and monetary correction, you can write it down”, he guaranteed.

The 'snarled' controversy

As he is a personality fighter, Boi didn't run away when asked about the 'arrada' that Israel adesanya gave in Paulo borrachinha, after having won the UFC 253. The Brazilian defended his compatriot and said that, if the Nigerian had done that to him or someone on his team, regrettable scenes would have happened.

“I even mentioned this to Minotauro. Borrachinha was knocked out and was not well enough to understand. I don't think he even saw it at the time. If it were me or a partner, I would definitely have a big fight. I was only going to calm down when I settled the accounts. I think Borrachinha did it right. He had to sell this fight, regardless of what people think. It's very easy to criticize. We are the ones who take the hits,” he concluded.

Despite the resourcefulness, Carlos Boi He is only 25 years old and will be fighting in his tenth MMA fight. The Brazilian has eight victories in his career, six by knockout and only one defeat, precisely in his UFC debut.

In its turn, yorgan de castro has a similar cartel. The 33-year-old athlete from Cape Verde has six victories in the sport, five by knockout and one defeat.
