The difficult triumph over Omari Akhmedov did Chris Weidman reacquainted with his victories and it was enough for the North American to aim for the highest point in the middleweight category (83,9kg). Even without impressing against the Russian, the former category champion has regained his confidence, has not forgotten his glory days and wants to face Israel adesanya.

To the channel Chael Sonnen, on YouTube, 'The All-American' claimed to be the perfect fighter to dethrone the current number one middleweight and take away his unbeaten record, citing wrestling as a determining point in a possible duel and the fight against Anderson Silva for example.

“I can beat Adesanya, for sure! I think it's a fight tailor-made for me. It will be the same as my fight against Anderson. I proved that I can beat these tall, thin, athletic changers. I have wrestling on my side, I put pressure on and my blows are heavy. Continuous pressure is the recipe for beating this type of athlete. I proved that against Anderson twice and Hall. Strikers like that are in trouble against me,” Weidman said.

The former champion believes he is different from the opponents Adesanya faced and continued to praise his quality in wrestling.

“It’s an exciting fight to have. If we look at the rankings, there aren't that many fights that will excite people. Adesanya and I have a narrative that can work and what I present is a danger to him. It's not bullshit, it's just facts. If you like MMA and really understand the sport, you know that I present serious problems for Adesanya. More than anyone he faced. He hasn't faced any acclaimed wrestlers, other than Romero, who doesn't use wrestling. I am the opponent who will pressure, take down and control on the ground. Adesanya will be my ragdoll!”, he concluded.

Before winning Omari Akhmedov, Chris Weidman he had been defeated four times in his last five fights. The former middleweight champion was knocked out by Luke Rockhold, Yoel romero, Gegard Mousasi, Ronaldo Jacare e Dominick reyes and, in that time, the only one who overcame was Kelvin Gastelum.

Styles make Fighting offensive Wrestling, constant pressure would be a nightmare for Adesanya.

But I believe that Weidman is no longer at his peak, but it would be a magnificent fight.
