The harsh defeat of Paulo borrachinha for Israel adesanya No. UFC 253 continues to give something to talk about. Last Saturday (26), on 'Ilha da Luta', in Abu Dhabi, the Brazilian ended up falling victim to his rival's technique and succumbed with a knockout in the second round. After the duel, the Minas Gerais manager, Wallid Ismail, spoke about his pupil's passivity in the fight for the middleweight belt (up to 83,9kg).

“Paulo was hoping to have more time, so that, in the second or third round, he could release more, but, really, those calf kicks bothered him. It was the best day for the guy (Adesanya). There’s no excuse, there’s no crying,” said the businessman, speaking to the press after the show.

Even with a performance below expectations, Wallid knows the qualities of Borrachinha, who charted a perfect trajectory in his career, until the meeting with Israel. This way, for the agent, there is no secret. Paulo must return to training as soon as possible to regain his status as a challenger for the division title.

"It happened. He's in the heads. What he has to do: recover for a month and return to training. It's the warrior's life. The warrior cannot keep his head down when a defeat occurs. (…) In reality, Adesanya did the right thing, he kept kicking his calf, causing discomfort. I don't have to make excuses. Paulo will train and come back stronger. He finished. Congratulations to Adesanya and life goes on, the war goes on. We lost this battle, but the war continues,” said Ismail.

Finally, Wallid made an analogy about another athlete he manages, Deiveson Figueiredo. For the businessman, Borrachinha can use the example of the man from Pará to get back on his feet and believes that the Minas Gerais native will still be UFC champion.

“Paulo Costa (Borrachinha) will come back stronger, you can take note. He will be champion. It happens. Who was the champion who didn't lose? It happened with Deiveson. He lost one fight, came back, won two well and became champion. Deiveson is the best example. The warrior has to train all the time”, he concluded.
