The year 2020 has caused a lot of surprises and, when it comes to MMA, the scenario is no different. If several fighters announce their retirement, others return to the sport and this is the case of Thomas almeida. The Brazilian, who had been out since January 2018 due to an eye injury, which even required surgery, will fight against Alejandro Perez, on October 11th, on Ilha da Luta, and is excited to show off his transformation. “I lost to myself. I know I can do a lot more, but sometimes we have to go back, fix some problems and learn new moves. I want to be an MMA fighter. That's my focus now and what I'm looking to improve. Not just fighting standing up, but being a complete athlete. My mindset has changed, but my roots will never change. I have to be smarter, control the fight, score points, take takedowns. I will change a little, but my goal will always be to knock out or submit my opponent”, said Thominhas.

Like the Brazilian, Perez also lost two consecutive fights, which makes the fight quite dangerous. However, Almeida does not believe that the fight will be tied and praised his opponent.

“Perez is tough. We're going to have fun and we're going to give the fans a show. I always look for the knockout and I'm not going to change. It's a promise. I like this fight, because Perez likes to exchange blows on the feet, just like me, and he is also very aggressive. I think the fans will love the fight, because we are always looking for the knockout”, he concluded.

Despite being young, Thomas almeida, 29 years old, has a lot of experience in the UFC. Before the break, the Brazilian fought eight fights for the organization and his start was overwhelming. The athlete won the first four fights, earning bonuses in all events, and was only stopped by cody garbrandt. In 2016, this duel defined the promise that would take a step forward in the bantamweight division (61,2kg).
