Super hero! Used to facing opponents inside the BRAVE CF cage, Maria Ribeiro experienced an unusual situation when she dominated a harasser who was showing his genitals in a public place, in Sinop, Mato Grosso. “We were getting ready to go to the market, my sister-in-law and I, when a man got off his bike and started showing his genitals to me, making some gestures. We cursed him, but it wasn't enough. When he ran away, we took the car and went after him. When we caught up with him, he resisted, but I immobilized him and waited for the police to arrive. I have nephews and nieces in the family, our region is full of parks and many children play in our streets. I couldn’t leave him loose”, said the flyweight (up to 52,1kg).

The fighter also reported that, after the attempted immobilization, the harasser tried to resist his actions, but his experience in martial arts meant that the man remained dominated. Maria then stated that her attitude was also on behalf of other women, who are harassed daily and, often, have no way to defend themselves.

“He tried to free himself, he said he was taking meat out of his own pants. But we have witnesses. I imagine what we women go through every day, and I did it for them too. I wouldn't be able to sleep peacefully if I knew I left this guy walking around when I could have done something. There was a little commotion right before the police arrived and all the women were thanking me, cheering me on. I received several messages from women in the area and that was really cool”, concluded the 'Wonder Woman'.

At 27 years old, Ribeiro has been working in MMA since May 2016. Today, the fighter has eight fights, with five wins and six losses on her professional record. Her last performance took place in November last year, when she was beaten by Karolina Wojcik in a split decision by the judges, at BRAVE CF 30.
