Former Shooto champion, Glyan Alves dies from a gunshot wound in Juiz de Fora

Father, coach and organization confirm the death of the 25-year-old athlete in an incident that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday

Former Shooto Brasil champion, Glyan Alves passed away in the early hours of Wednesday (18) after being shot in the city of Juiz de Fora (MG). The information was confirmed by the miner’s father and coach. According to information from the Military Police (PM), the athlete was the victim of three gunshots. The fighter was taken to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. Shooto released a note of condolence upon hearing the news.

“Fighter Glyan Alves, former Shooto Brasil super-bantamweight champion, died this Wednesday (18), aged 25, in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais. Glyan was shot three times. The circumstances of the death have not yet been clarified. We leave here our tribute and our sincere feelings to Glyan's family, a promising, extremely skilled young man, who certainly had many other achievements ahead of him. We lost a great athlete today,” they wrote.

Currently, Alves was part of the group of fighters at 'JF Fight', where he held the bantamweight belt (up to 61,2kg).

Professional in the sport since 2012, Glyan had 18 fights as a professional in MMA. The athlete had 13 wins and five losses. His last performance took place in August last year, when he lost to Elvis Batista da Silva, at Shooto Brazil 94.

So far, there are no suspects or information about what may have led to the miner's death.
