Facing your biggest enemy and keeping your head straight shouldn't be one of the easiest tasks for human beings. However, this was the duty of Kamaru Usman in its commitment to UFC 245, held last Saturday (14), in Las Vegas. The Nigerian had an obligation to climb into the octagon and exchange forces with his biggest enemy: Colby covington, in a fight valid for the light heavyweight belt (up to 77kg.).

Kamaru performed his role well, winning, but stated that he felt the great pressure of not being able to fail against a controversial opponent hated by MMA fans. The statement was made at a press conference after the event.

“It was a lot of pressure. Let's be honest. Nobody wants to lose to that guy. But hey, that's what champions do. You have to be able to live these situations and grow. You have to show why you are the champion and I did that tonight,” said Usman.

In promoting the duel, which lasted a few months, Covington ended up becoming the 'villain' of the clash, making provocations and promoting the duel, exceeding some limits with attitudes considered unacceptable by some sports enthusiasts.

The champion made a point of stating that he took to the octagon to represent people from all over the world, who do not agree with the type of 'character' created by Colby.

“This victory is for people all over the world. For people in Brazil. You cannot plant hate. Love sometimes wins”, concluded the fighter.
