One of the Brazilian representatives on this Saturday's card (14), at UFC Vancouver, in Canada, is Antonio Shoe Guy. The athlete, who is coming off a recent defeat to Ian Heinisch, hopes to recover and beat the known Uriah Hall in the second fight on the main card. According to the native of Paraíba, the ground will be an exploited point to beat this weekend's opponent. The statement was made to 'Combate' in a recent interview.

“On the ground we are at home. We feel very good. I trained jiu-jitsu my whole life. (I'm going to) work on ground and pound. It was something I trained a lot, this is one of the parts of my game that I wasn't using. I think ground and pound makes the guy deliver the submission, it opens up a lot of space for you and it's one of the things I'm using and intend to use with him too”, said the Brazilian.

The native of Paraíba claims to have studied Hall's game, which, according to Shoe Face, gives some gaps to allow development in transitions in jiu-jitsu and makes it easier for your opponent to achieve a possible submission.

“I saw that he accepts the ground a little, that's great for me. He's a guy who opens up a lot, he needs space to play his game, which is from distance, giving the rotating (attacks) that he does very well. I saw that he doesn't have much volume, they are usually isolated strikes, so (I'm) going to use that to our advantage, even to get in a takedown on one of his strikes,” he said. Shoe Face.

Even though he claims to be aware of the flaws in his opponent's strategy, if he manages to submit Uriah, this would be the Jamaican's first defeat by submission in his career. In nine defeats since he debuted in MMA, the athlete was defeated only by knockout or by decision of the judges.

Antônio, however, can be considered one of the best ground fighters to have ever faced Hall. Of the 10 victories the Brazilian has in his career, eight were by submission.

The meeting between the athletes is also worth competing for a direct position in the light heavyweight rankings. Hall currently occupies 12th place, while the native of Paraíba is in 13th.
