The coach of José Aldo, Dedé Pederneiras, stated that he believes in a new comeback for the athlete. In an interview published this Monday (27) by 'Combate', the leader of the 'Nova União' academy commented on Manauara's defeat in the UFC 237, on May 11, and the plans for the pupil’s future. Aldo only has one more fight left on his UFC contract.

“Aldo was really expecting a knockout, waiting a lot for that moment. (Alexander) Volkanovski was touching, running and Aldo couldn't find the distance to put his hand in and really try for the knockout. The wait meant that the Australian accumulated points in the rounds”, said the coach.

Pederneiras also criticized the result of the judges, who declared, at the end of the third round, the victory by unanimous decision for the athlete from Australia.

“In my opinion, the fight was never 3-0 for him, perhaps the split decision would have been the most coherent result, but I think Aldo ended up allowing room for the result he had. He himself said that he ended up waiting too long and “stuck” when it came to catching, attacking and finishing the fight. These are things that happen in a fight”, commented Dedé.

Regarding the future of the former featherweight champion (up to 65,7kg), the leader of 'Nova União' adopted caution when dealing with the matter. According to Dedé, Aldo will take some time off and then think about his future in the organization. The athlete only has one more fight left in his contract with the UFC and, for the coach, José will, in addition to fulfilling his commitment, win again for the company.

“We must have a conversation to be able to decide this, but for now, there is no talk about this issue. Aldo is on vacation. Many people thought that after the defeats to Max Holloway he wouldn't win again because of his head. And he turned things around, showed that he has none of that. Now the same thing will happen”, said Pederneiras.

Finally, the Manauara coach commented on the next fight in the fight for the featherweight belt between Max Holloway and Aldo's former rival, Frankie Edgar. For Dedé, Edgar has an advantage in the duel against the current champion and, in case of victory, the result could favor the 'People's Champion'.

“I think Edgar will beat Holloway. Frankie moves a lot, and Max, despite maintaining a constant volume, is not a one-punch-to-knockout guy. So, this makes it difficult to get things right. Furthermore, the American can put things down well, I think he will play inside, trying for takedowns and touching a lot. A victory for Frankie favors Aldo”, concluded Pederneiras.

José Aldo He has already admitted on several occasions his desire to abandon his career as an MMA fighter in the near future. However, the 32-year-old athlete revealed that he dreams of building a career in professional boxing. If he gets his wish, the former featherweight champion should only be seen once again putting on UFC gloves. The date of the fight and the opponent, however, have not yet been announced.
