Chris Weidman responded to the challenge made by Jack hermansson after the Swede's victory over the Brazilian Ronaldo Jacare No. UFC Fort Lauderdale, held in the United States, last weekend. On his Twitter account, last Wednesday (1), the American made a point of responding to Jack and accepting the fight. In addition to Weidman, Hermansson also cited Yoel romero e Kelvin Gastelum as possible opponents.

Jack launched the challenge in a recent interview with the program ‘Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show’, where he also revealed two more possible opponents in his climb towards the title fight in the middleweight category (under 83,9kg).

“We want the big guys. I have three names in mind: Yoel romero, Kelvin Gastelum e Chris Weidman. These make sense to me”, commented Hermansson, who added that his preference is for the duel against Yoel. “Romero is the best ranked. So if you beat him, people will say: ‘he deserves a title shot’. He's also the toughest guy. He's a tough guy to beat and very dangerous. I want to beat the guys who can take me to the belt”, commented Jack.

Weidman, unlike Hermansson, is looking to rediscover the good phase of his career. Since he lost the division belt to Luke Rockhold in 2015, Chris had four fights and won only once, when he submitted Gastelum, in July 2017. His last fight took place against Ronaldo Jacare, in November last year. In the duel, Weidman dominated the fight, when he was surprised by a straight shot from the Brazilian in the third round, which led to a knockout.

The North American became famous in the fighting world after putting an end to the Brazilian's reign Anderson Silva, who dominated the middleweight division for nearly seven years. Weidman beat Brazil's idol after delivering a surprising knockout at UFC 162, shocking the MMA world and making the organization's history.

Chris, after the title, managed to defend it twice. One, in an immediate rematch against Anderson, and two others against the Brazilians Lyoto Machida e Vitor belfort.

If he wins, the fight against Hermansson could put Weidman back on the division's map. Currently, the North American is only in 7th place in the middleweight rankings.
