Owen Roddy believes that to qualify for a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov, Conor must have another confrontation and ‘Cowboy’ would be a good opponent

The Nevada Athletic Commission ruled on Tuesday (29) Khabib Nurmagomedov, Conor McGregor and those involved in the widespread brawl at UFC 229. As punishment, the Irishman will have to serve a six-month suspension and US$50. Thus, the former UFC champion will be able to fight again from April 06th. Thinking about the future of ‘Notorious’, his trainer, Owen Roddy chose the fight with Donald Cerrone as a fan favorite.

Upon returning to the lightweight category, Cerrone challenged McGregor to a confrontation, but received no response from his rival. However, after Donald's knockout victory over Alexander Hernandez at UFC Brooklyn, Conor accepted the dispute with the North American.

“It’s the fans’ favorite fight. (…) Both were directly engaged. Conor said he would fight, so Cerrone agreed. I think this can get off the ground. (…) Conor is a superstar. He could turn around and say, 'No, I want to fight Khabib (Nurmagomedov),' and he could probably swing it, just because he can. But when you lose a fight, sometimes you have to fight someone else. Again, I don't know, anything can happen with Conor, but I think (Cerrone) would be a good opponent. (…) I think everyone would like that,” said Roddy.

Donald Cerrone comes from two victories in Ultimate and occupies ninth place in the lightweight rankings. ‘Cowboy’ has 47 fights in his career, with 35 triumphs, 11 setbacks and one unsuccessful fight.
