The Brazilian Paulo Filho, champion in the WEC up to 84kg. granted the rematch to Chael Sonnen, whom he defeated at WEC 31, in December 2007, with an arm-bar. According to the boxing coach of Paul Philo, Josuel Distak, Sonnen reportedly asked for a rematch right after the fight.
“In the last fight we had technical problems when Paulão lost weight, which is why he didn't perform well. Sonnen asked for a rematch after the loss to Paulão and we accepted. But thank God this will be Paulão's last fight in the under-84kg category. After this fight he moves up to fight at 93kg”, revealed Distak.
