Recently, the news that Wanderlei Silva could sign with Rizin, an event that has been called “New PRIDE”, and face none other than the legendary Fedor Emelianenko took the MMA world by surprise. The organization's president, Nobuyuki Sakakibara, confirmed the intention to sign Wand and further increased the hope of fans of major Japanese events for the superfight.

“I'm going to visit the United States this month and I'm going to meet Wanderlei. He is a fighter who is not only interesting to Rizin, but to combat sports fans in general. Our job is to fulfill the desires of our viewers. There is this possibility (of the fight between Wand and Fedor being held). If the number of people who want to see this fight is truly incredible, we will make efforts to ensure that it happens”, said Sakakibara, in an interview with the Russian website “Tass”.
Without fighting since 2013, when he defeated Brian Stann, Wanderlei Silva is currently suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission and banned from MMA in the state, and consequently from the main stages of the sport in the United States. However, the Brazilian was recently released by the UFC from his contract with the organization and, theoretically, is free to work in the Japan, where mixed martial arts are unregulated.
