The confrontation between Chael Sonnen e Wanderlei Silva, one of the most anticipated fights by fans in 2014, never happened. However, even with both athletes admittedly retired from MMA, the duel could be held in a different format than expected. Sonnen stated that both he and the Brazilian were invited by the organization telecatch WWE for a meeting next month, although it is not yet known what the subject will be discussed.

The North American revealed the information in an interview with the Canadian TV channel “TSN”. He said he was invited by the entertainment company to attend the WrestleMania 31 event, in Santa Clara, California (USA), which will feature another former UFC fighter, Brock Lesnar.

"I got a call from WWE. I was told, 'We have a Hall of Fame event coming up in March, if you want to come, we wanted to talk about a few things.' That was it. They gave me a plane ticket and a ticket to the event, in an excellent place. I like that product and I don't know what they will tell me, but I'll say it: Wanderlei Silva was also invited. I don’t know if he accepted it and I don’t know if one thing has to do with the other, but that’s it”, said the North American.

WrestleMania events, which feature staged fights, are held once a year and are a huge success in the United States. From there came names like the aforementioned Lesnar, who became UFC heavyweight champion, and CM Punk, recently hired by the biggest MMA organization in the world.

Sonnen and Wanderlei had one of the biggest rivalries in MMA in 2014. As coaches of the TUF Brasil 3 teams, the athletes exchanged several provocations, including getting into a fight during the program's recordings. The fight should have taken place in July, at UFC 175, but both were suspended – Wanderlei for refusing to take an anti-doping test, and Sonnen for testing positive. Thus, the two were removed from the UFC and announced their retirement from MMA.
