Anderson Silva He has already completed another stage towards his return to the Octagon, scheduled for January 31st. In a hearing at the Nevada Athletic Commission this Monday (12), Spider received his license to play in the duel against Nick Diaz at UFC 183 and also saw the definition of the central referee and side judges for the confrontation.

The person responsible for the octagon in the fight between Diaz and Silva will be veteran “Big John” McCarthy, who has been involved in the event since the first edition. The trio responsible for scoring on the cards, if the fight does not end before the end of the fifth round, will be composed of: Sal D'Amato, Marcos Rosales and Glenn Trowbridge.
In addition, the amounts paid to those responsible for refereeing the fight were also defined. For McCarthy, the equivalent of US$1,5 (around R$4, at the current rate) will be paid. For each of the side judges, the amount dedicated will be US 1,2 (almost R$ 3,2).
To date, John McCarthy has only been a referee in three of Spider's 18 UFC fights. The memories, however, couldn't be better for Anderson. “Big John” was responsible for leading the Brazilian’s debut in the octagon, with an overwhelming victory over Chris Leben; winning the middleweight belt over Rich Franklin in 2006; and, a year later, the rematch against Franklin, again won comfortably by the native of Curitiba.
UFC 183 takes place on January 31st, at the MGM Grand Garden, in Las Vegas (USA). In the main fight of the night, Anderson Silva returns to the octagon after more than a year away, due to the serious fracture suffered in his left leg during the rematch against Chris Weidman. The former champion's opponent will be the controversial Nick Diaz. In the co-main fight of the night, Tyron woodley face the TUF 17 champion Kelvin Gastelum.
