Case Chael Sonnen not ready to face Wanderlei Silva, another opponent has already made himself available. His name is Cung le, who was already defeated by the Brazilian in a UFC fight in 2011, by technical knockout.
Sonnen's participation in the fight, which is already scheduled for May 31st in Brazil, still raises some doubts among the MMA community. The North American will not be able to use testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), which was banned by the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA) last month. For this reason, Vitor belfort was removed from his fight against Chris Weidman, which would be just a week before.
Even though Sonnen has assured that he will compete, even without TRT, Le has offered himself in case there is a change of plans. “If Chael gets hurt or decides he's not ready for the fight against Wanderlei, I'll offer myself. I would love to have another chance [to face Wanderlei]. I have a lot of respect for him, as I admired him watching his fights in PRIDE. When I fought him, I felt like I didn't have a good fight and I know I can do much better”, said the fighter, in an interview with the podcast “The MMA Hour”.
The fight between Wanderlei and Sonnen should take place in the light heavyweight category (up to 93 kg), a category above which Le is used to acting.
