'Tyson x Roy Jones Jr' surpasses 1 million pay-per-views sold and confirms superfight success

Clash between boxing legends exceeds expectations and opens the way for new events in the same style

For those who doubted the success of the clash between the veterans Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr., the numbers didn't lie. In the meeting between boxing legends, held last Saturday (28), in Los Angeles, the promotion surpassed the mark of 1 million (around 1,2 million) pay-per-views sold, exceeding the expectations of the organizers, who sold each package for US$49,95 (almost R$260). The information was released by 'ESPN'.

Even with specific rules, created to maintain the physical integrity of Tyson and Jones, who are 54 and 51 years old, respectively, as much as possible, the fans literally bought the fight. In a fight scheduled for eight two-minute rounds, the veterans managed to entertain the fans and guaranteed success in the fight that closed the show promoted by 'Triller'.

The numbers achieved by Tyson and Jones Jr. place last weekend's event as one of the most successful of 2020, even compared to Ultimate shows. At the UFC 251, Starring Kamaru Usman e Jorge masvidal, for example, sales were approximately 1,3 million packages.

With its success, the show led by Tyson and Jones Jr. opens the doors to other presentations of the genre. After the meeting between former world boxing champions, another legend decided to enter the game. Evander Holyfield, Mike's eternal tormentor, didn't take long to start his campaign to repeat the meetings held in 1996 and 1997, when he defeated 'Iron Man'.

After facing Roy, Tyson, in an interview, stated that he intends to stay active, promoting exhibition fights. According to the fighter, the plan is to make a presentation every two months.
