“I've been out of action for over a year, already recovered and hungry to fight. I've always been a very active guy, I don't like sitting still and we made ourselves available to fight. Then the UFC asked me if I would fight Glover. (…) I immediately answered yes. We are professionals (SIC). I have a lot of respect for Glover, not only as a fighter, but as a person. In the same conversation, Marreta made it clear that facing Teixeira was not his first option. Coming from a title fight in his last commitment, the desire of the fighter from Cidade de Deus (RJ) was different.

“The desire was a rematch with (Jon) Jones or even the interim belt against Dominick reyes. But the UFC has this undefined situation regarding Jones,” he explained.

Thiago has not performed since the fateful meeting against the current champion of the category, when he shocked the world and, almost, did not become the new owner of the title. At the time, the Brazilian ended up suffering injuries to both knees and had to undergo surgery. After the procedures, Marreta went through a long recovery process.

Glover, in turn, performed four times between January of last year and May of this year, triumphing at every opportunity. The Minas Gerais player is coming off a great victory over Anthony Smith, when he brutalized the former title challenger for almost five rounds, until achieving the knockout.
