“I passed my medical assessment last week. I'm excited to regain my place in the lightweight division after my title was stripped due to my injury. Khabib won't fight for a while, so he should lose the belt. The super title fight between Khabib and I is what the fans want.

A few months ago, Tony Ferguson asked to leave the UFC citing personal problems, which was confirmed by the company's president, Dana White. According to the website 'MMA Junkie', Ferguson received a restraining order requested by his wife, Cristina Servin. Tony's partner claimed that her husband was suffering psychotic episodes and accused the fighter of domestic violence.

In addition to the serious problem, the former interim lightweight champion had his title stripped in 2017, after being diagnosed with a serious knee injury, which forced him to give up his belt without having defended it even once.

The fight between Ferguson and the current champion, Nurmagomedov, was confirmed on four different occasions. The two, however, never faced each other. The clash between the athletes was canceled on each occasion for different reasons. For many fans, this was an extremely anticipated fight, given that the fighters were at the peak of their physical condition.

Tony and Khabib have impressive winning streaks. Both won 11 consecutive trump cards in the company, which favors the scheduling of the clash between them.

Ferguson, however, finds an obstacle to achieving his chance at the title. The UFC scheduled the fight between the featherweight champion (up to 65,8kg), Max Holloway against Dustin poirier, UFC 263, for the interim lightweight title. The winner will possibly face the lineal champion, Khabib, who is suspended until the end of the year due to the widespread confusion caused at UFC 229.

Tony Ferguson, 35 years old, hasn't fought since October last year, when he knocked out Anthony Pettis, at UFC 229, receiving the 'Fight of the Night' award.
