Aldo's UFC 237 rival asks for interim title fight: 'I want one too'

O UFC 236, an event that takes place next Saturday (13), features two interim belt disputes: at lightweight (up to 70,3 kg.) and middleweight (up to 84 kg.). But Alexander Volkanovsky, rival of José Aldo No. UFC 237, in Rio de Janeiro, also wants a duel for the non-linear belt against the Brazilian.

The Australian claimed that the featherweight champion, Max Holloway, moved up to lightweight to fight for the interim title in the top division, so that should open up the opportunity for him and Aldo.

“We know how this sport works. How many interim belts are there? I'm not criticizing the organizers, but there are many, and now I'm waiting for it to happen to me. If Holloway beats Poirier, and wants to face Khabib Nurmagomedov, so give me the interim belt fight. Since they’re distributing a portion around, send one to me too,” Volkanovski told the North American website MMA Junkie.

Volkanovski also considered that, if Ultimate does not offer an interim title fight in the UFC 237, he bets that he will get the chance next.

“I don't think I'll have to wait long. I'm almost certain that I'll be the next challenger after the fight against José Aldo in Rio. I'll beat him at his house. No one will be more deserving than me after this,” he added.
