UFC president Dana White said he does not believe that the retirement of the former UFC champion, Conor McGregor, be definitive. The announcement was made in an interview that took place last Monday (1), published on UFC.com. For White, it's all just a great strategy by Conor and his team to change focus and improve the Irishman's image in the face of the personal problems experienced by the athlete.

“I believe there are things that Conor wants. I think he still wants to meet with me face to face, and we will, probably in the next few weeks, to discuss what is happening”, said the company boss.

Dana also mentioned that the Irishman's focus is currently much more on money than on actually being respected. Furthermore, she mentioned that not even the biggest names in the organization's history received the amount of money that Conor earned in his Ultimate fights.

“Listen, who is more respected than Conor McGregor? This guy has never been disrespected, least of all by me,” said White.

McGregor's ambition, however, went beyond what was imaginable. A few weeks ago, Conor suggested a fight, but if it were to happen, he would like to buy part of Ultimate's shares. The denial was immediate from the company's management.

“He stuck to the idea of being part of the group of shareholders and, if you think about it, Michael Jordan never bought part of the NBA (American basketball league), and many others”, commented Dana. “Is Conor important to the UFC? Course is. But there are other ways to make you satisfied,” said the boss.

Asked if the Irishman is as important to the company as the company is to him, White was emphatic.

“The UFC will be here after Conor is gone, after I am gone, and anyone else”, concluded the president.
