For “Cowboy”, everything is just a strategy by Conor to keep his name in the spotlight.

“We saw this last night. In fact, we were awake. We had just landed in Canada. We were reading this,” said the American. "I do not believe that. I don't believe it's happening. I believe it is a ploy to remain important. I don’t think he’s going anywhere,” added Cerrone.

McGregor and Cerrone had a verbal agreement to face each other in the UFC. Conor was in favor of the battle after being impressed by Cerrone's performance at the last UFC Brooklyn, which took place in January 2019, in which he knocked out the fellow American Alexander Hernandez in the second round. At the time, McGregor made a point of praising Donald on Twitter.

The surprising announcement of Conor's retirement ended any possibility of a meeting between the two athletes, at least for now. But Donald Cerrone he already has a next opponent on his list. The North American is scheduled to fight against To the fifth, being the main fight of UFC Ottawa, in August.

Donald's new fight was scheduled after UFC's difficulties in negotiating his fight with Conor due to a series of demands made by the Irishman. The bureaucracy irritated Cerrone, who accepted the fight against Iaquinta.

“I just got tired of waiting. He's radio silent, so I wasn't going to sit back and wait for something like this to suddenly happen (Conor retiring),” said the American fighter. “I’ll take another fight,” Donald commented.

Regarding McGregor, Cerrone maintains his opinion about it being a strategy, but says he read that Conor could migrate to WWE (a major professional wrestling event in the United States).

“I read something saying he might go to WWE. I don't know. He needs to get out of his UFC contract to do that. Retirement is a way out, but I doubt it. He’s not going anywhere”, concluded the ‘Cowboy’.
