Brazil has become an important hub for UFC business in recent years. The biggest proof of this is that the organization plans to hold the biggest event in its history in the country. Scheduled for June 23rd, at the Engenhão Stadium, UFC 147 should receive up to 80 thousand paying guests to watch the rematches between Wanderlei Silva against Vitor belfort, and Anderson Silva defending the middleweight belt against Chael Sonnen. But the international press is already reporting on the violence in Brazil and even questioning Sonnen's safety, who has provoked the local public and Brazilian fighters on several occasions.

However, UFC president, Dana White, made a point of demystifying Brazil's history of violence and praises the safety that all Ultimate members had on their trips to the country.

“Brazil and its people have a bad reputation”, argues Dana, in an interview with Fight Day, “Honestly, the first few times I went to Brazil, I was worried. But I have visited the country several times, and I say that both Brazil and Brazilians are being judged with prejudice”, added the top hat.

Dana also made a point of saying that several cities in the United States are more violent than Rio de Janeiro, the city that will host the UFC for the third time.

PUBLICITY:

“It’s not as dangerous, scary or crazy there as people here imagine. Of course problems happened there in the past, but problems happen everywhere. We can say the same about Detroit, New York or several other cities in the United States”, concluded the president.
