Fans have waited a long time for Ben Askren's Ultimate debut. But, on Saturday night (02), he showed why he is considered one of the greatest welterweights (up to 77,1 kg.) in the world. 'Funky', as he is known, suffered at the beginning of the fight against Roobie Lawler and was close to being knocked out. However, with a lot of resistance, he withstood the punishment and submitted the former UFC champion with a tie at the end of the first round.

Euphoric with his triumph, he wasted no time and sent his message to Dana White, president of the UFC. “Hey Dana, is this really the best you have? Bring them to me, baby,” said Askren while still in the cage.
The fight
Ben Askren suffered a choke in the first seconds of the fight. When trying to get into the takedown, he was surprised by Lawler, who reversed the position and threw him headfirst into the octagon. Robbie still threw several punches at the newcomer, who had a huge bleed on his face. After the tough punishment, Askren managed to get out of the pressure and got up. From then on, he insistently sought the fall. The moment he took the fight to the ground, the North American quickly reached his back. Robbie managed to get his opponent out of position, but, even on his side, he applied a technical tie to Lawler.
