Thiago Marreta promised and fulfilled. The Brazilian, who during the week announced that he would win Jan Blachowicz and asking for a chance at the belt, he did exactly what he said. With the triumph, Marreta scored his fourth consecutive victory, the third among light heavyweights, and became the second greatest knockout artist in the history of the franchise – alongside Anderson Silva e Anthony Johnson.
Still in the Octagon, Marreta announced: 'The public will say if I deserve the title shot. I'm going to Las Vegas to watch the fight next week. If the Anthony Smith win, I will beat him once again. If the Jon Jones If I win, I'm going to shock the world', said the Brazilian, who dedicated the victory to the victims of Brumadinho, the families of the 10 boys from Flamengo's academy who died in the CT fire and the victims of the rains in Rio.
The fight
With two fighters known for their knockout power, Thiago Marreta e Jan Blachowicz They started the duel cautiously. They studied from a distance so as not to expose themselves to counterattacks. Kicks were the main form of attack for both, but without much force. In the first round, the best moment belonged to the Brazilian, who managed to close the distance on the counterattack and crossed the Polish's head with a left.
In the second round, the dispute continued to be studied. This time, however, Blachowicz added more volume to the fight. He used kicks to the legs, waist line and even the head. Despite the blows not hitting Marreta, the Pole scored important points to balance the duel.
With the contest so balanced, he tried to exert pressure in the first seconds of the third round. He walked forward throwing punches, but was caught in a spectacular counterattack. Marreta retreated from his rival's attack, but crossed to the right, followed by the left to take his opponent to the canvas. He still lived up to his nickname and literally hit Blachowicz several times in the head until the referee ended the fight 39 seconds into the match.
