Judo: World champions go through the first phase undefeated

The two big stars of the World Cup in Belo Horizonte, world champions Teddy Riner, from France, and Luciano Corrêa, from Brazil, had no problem going through their fights this Monday morning undefeated. Fighting resumed at 18 p.m.

The most competitive category in the Brazilian competition, the heavyweights (+ 100 kg) had a series of good fights. Riner won both fights he competed in by ippon. In the first, he beat Brazilian Luiz Carmo by ippon in just 14 seconds. In the second, the reserve of the Brazilian Olympic team, Walter Santos, still balanced the confrontation, but was overcome, also by ippon.

In the other group, Brazilian João Gabriel Schlittler had problems. Against the current European runner-up, the Italian Paolo Bianchessi, he resisted until the Golden Score, but ended up defeated. Against Frenchman Pierre Robin, he was almost pinned, but won, also in sudden death.
