Usman reveals that Woodley tried to change divisions to avoid facing him

Kamaru stated Tyron was 'running away' from the confrontation, as he knows the Nigerian is a better and more complete fighter than him

Tyron woodley He has been the Ultimate Welterweight Champion since July 2016 and has since made four successful title defenses. 'Chosen One' will put the belt up for grabs for the fifth time against Kamaru Usman at UFC 235, March 2, in Las Vegas (USA). Despite being number one in the division for so long, 'Nigerian Nightmare' revealed that the North American considered changing categories so as not to face him.

Even though he praised Woodley, Usman stated that he is a better and more complete fighter than the welterweight champion. This would be the reason why Tyron has been 'running away' from a fight with the Nigerian for so long.

"Tyron woodley He's good, he's a complete fighter, just like me. Where he is good, I feel I am better. I am a new hybrid form of him. (…) He knows that I am in fact a hybrid version of him. That's why he tried to escape this fight for as long as he could. He would rather move to the middleweight category (84 kg) than have to accept this fight”, said Usman in an interview with the North American website MMA Figthing.

Kamaru and Woodley will face off in the co-main event of UFC 235. The main fight will feature a light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones e Anthony Smith. The event will also feature a Robbie Lawler and Ben Askren at welterweight.
