“If I land this left hand on someone, that guy is going to go down. So far, everyone I've faced at middleweight has fallen. At some point in every fight I've had in this category, all of my opponents have suffered knockouts. Everyone has flaws in their games, of course. But he has a lot of positive points, he doesn't make many mistakes. He's not a champion for nothing. He's very good at striking, he's a good defensive wrestler, but I'm confident I'll get past him. It's how I feel, and it's how a fighter should feel. If so, why do you fight? I feel like I’m going to get past him, knocking him out or submitting him,” said Gastelum in an interview with the Combate channel’s website.

During camps, fighters end up experiencing problems such as pain or minor injuries. Contrary to this, Kelvin revealed that his training was 'perfect' and that he had no problems. The curious thing was that the North American was scared, as nothing bad happened.

“This camp was perfect, almost too perfect. I was even a little scared. Normally there's a problem here, an injury there, which are things that happen in camps. But not in this one. This was perfect, peaceful, and it was a little strange, because some kind of problem always happens during training. That was perfect,” Kelvin said.

Doors open for a title defense

The next challenger for the middleweight title must be the winner of the fight between Anderson Silva e Israel adesanya. The duel between fighters from the under 84 division will be the co-main event of UFC 234. Gastelum admits the Nigerian's favoritism, but says 'Spider' should not be underestimated.

“I'm excited about this fight. I think, on paper, everything indicates that Israel will win. But I wouldn't see Anderson Silva like a card outside the deck. He is a legend and I don’t think they should discount his chances”, he said.

Ultimate president Dana White promised Anderson that if he wins the fight he will have the chance to fight for the middleweight title again. 'Spider' revealed his desire to fight for the belt in Curitiba, in UFC 237, May 11th. In case both fighters emerge victorious, Kelvin said he would like to face the Brazilian in the capital of Paraná.

"I like this idea. I would love to face him in Curitiba”, concluded the American.
