“It's never easy to see your friends get hit, get knocked out and get hurt. (…) We had a relationship that lasted many years and he fought for me in Strikeforce. Fedor no longer needs to continue fighting. He has done it all and is the greatest heavyweight in history. He had an excellent career. But it will actually be up to him to decide whether he actually rests,” Coker said.
The organization's commander assured that the decision to retire or not is in Emelianenko's hands. Before Bellator 214, Fedor stated in an interview that he was thinking about hanging up his gloves again.
“To tell you the truth, at the age I am now, more and more I am thinking about retiring. But I'm willing to rest a little and then decide (about retirement)”, said Fedor in a conversation with the press before the Heavyweight GP final.
The Russian retired in 2012 after beating Pedro Rizzo by knockout at M-1 Global. However, Fedor became inactive in 2015 and has already had five fights, with four wins and one loss. In the organization's Heavyweight GP, Emelianenko won by knockout Frank mir e Chael Sonnen and qualified for the final.
