Donald Cerrone returned to the lightweight division on the right foot during UFC Brooklyn, last Saturday (19). 'Cowboy' knocked out Alexander Hernandez in the second round and won the 'Fight of the Night' and 'Performance of the Night' bonuses. After the triumph in New York, the veteran is already planning to compete for the lightweight belt.

“I would take an opponent now up to the top 8, up to the top 5. I want to fight one more time, win and then fight for the belt. I no longer want to be fighting tenth, then eighth, then fifth. No! It's one more and then the belt. I don't have much time left, let's be realistic, what do I have? Three more years? Give me this chance at the belt”, asked Cowboy in a post-event interview.

Cerrone admitted he could have one more fight and if he wins, he would start a fight for the lightweight belt. The veteran wants the duel to take place in the first half of this year.

“I want to fight as soon as possible! March? April? May? In Vegas? Here we go! I want to fight soon (…). Winning or losing starts with the way you are feeling. I knew I would win because I was feeling really good. I’m back at 155 (pounds)!”, revealed the veteran.

Upon his return to lightweight, the veteran revealed that he had difficulty reaching the 70kg required in the category. That's seven kilos less than his old division.

“Worst weight cut of my life, but it’s okay (laughs). Getting to 165 is no problem, but from 160 to 155, man, it's the worst possible scenario,” concluded Cerrone.

Cerrone has a record of 46 fights, 35 wins and 11 losses. His last fight at lightweight was in UFC Orlando in December 2015, when he lost to Rafael dos Anjos in a duel for the category belt. In the welterweight division, the veteran had 10 clashes, where he had six victories and four setbacks in his career.
