Jennifer Maia receives six-month suspension from USADA for using contaminated supplement

The flyweight managed to prove to the agency that the diuretic substances discovered in an anti-doping test carried out in August 2018 came from contamination in his supplement

Jennifer maia received a six-month suspension after being caught in an anti-doping test in August 2018. The fighter proved that diuretic substances found in the test came from a contaminated food supplement. Therefore, the punishment announced by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) this Tuesday (15) was small.

Jennifer's drug test showed the presence of furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide, chlorothiazide and the thiazide metabolite 4-amino-6-chloro-1,3-benzenedisulfonamide (ACB). Substances such as diuretics (used for weight loss) and masking agents are banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada).

As the sentence is retroactive to August 31, 2018, the date on which it was preventively suspended, she will be able to return to fight again in March of this year.

Jennifer maia she was the Invicta FC flyweight champion in 2016 and 2017 and made her Ultimate debut last year. In her first fight in the organization, the Curitiba native was defeated by Liz Carmouche at UFC Boise in July. The Brazilian has 21 fights in her career, with 15 triumphs, five setbacks and one draw.
