Dominick Cruz reveals he may be out for a year due to shoulder injury

The former bantamweight champion explained that he suffered an injury that ruptured two ligaments in his right shoulder during training for UFC 233

Dominick Cruz was scheduled to face John Lineker at UFC 233, January 26th in Anaheim (USA). However, the former bantamweight champion withdrew from the duel after suffering an injury. In an interview with ESPN's North American channel, 'Dominator' revealed that he will be away from the Octagon for a year due to his shoulder injury.

“It’s basically an ACL [anterior cruciate ligament injury] in the shoulder,” Dominick said.

Cruz explained that he suffered the injury during training to face the Brazilian and that recovery from surgery will take approximately a year.

For Dominick, injuries are always accompanied by a lengthy recovery. During his MMA career, the former bantamweight champion suffered from this problem several times. He spent three years away from the Octagon between 2011 and 2014 due to several injuries. As a result, Ultimate stripped him of his category title.

Dominick had his last fight in December 2016 at UFC 207. Cruz put the bantamweight belt up for grabs against cody garbrandt and was defeated by unanimous decision. At 33 years old, 'Dominator' has a record of 24 fights, 22 triumphs and two setbacks.
