“It’s basically an ACL [anterior cruciate ligament injury] in the shoulder,” Dominick said.
Cruz explained that he suffered the injury during training to face the Brazilian and that recovery from surgery will take approximately a year.
For Dominick, injuries are always accompanied by a lengthy recovery. During his MMA career, the former bantamweight champion suffered from this problem several times. He spent three years away from the Octagon between 2011 and 2014 due to several injuries. As a result, Ultimate stripped him of his category title.
“It’s just part of my journey. These injuries will be part of my legacy”, concluded Cruz.
Dominick had his last fight in December 2016 at UFC 207. Cruz put the bantamweight belt up for grabs against cody garbrandt and was defeated by unanimous decision. At 33 years old, 'Dominator' has a record of 24 fights, 22 triumphs and two setbacks.
