Ultimate opened the Performance Institute in Las Vegas two years ago. US$14 million was invested in the facilities. The place is intended for franchise fighters looking for strength and conditioning, nutrition, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, among others.
The training center in China will offer athletes from across the region 'scholarships' with the aim of preparing them for competition at major shows.
“I couldn't be more excited about the opening of the UFC Performance Institute in Shanghai. We know there is a lot of talent across Asia and now we will be able to find them and offer them all the incredible training, nutrition and physical therapy that UFC fighters are getting at the Performance Institute at our headquarters in Las Vegas.” UFC Dana White in a statement.
The Performance Institute is still under construction and should open in the second quarter of 2019. The training center will not only house the fighters, but will also be the UFC's base in Asia receiving executives and employees from the franchise. Ultimate facilities in China must produce original programming and events.
