When two aggressive fighters face each other in the octagon, the expectation is that there will be a busy duel with plenty of violence for the fans. And that's how the fight between the light heavyweights went. Volkan oezdemir e Anthony Smith, won by submission by the North American fighter, in the main fight of UFC Moncton, held this Saturday (27), in Canada.

After taking advantage in the striking in the first two rounds, the Swiss was surprised on the ground by Smith, who managed a beautiful choke to achieve his third consecutive victory at light heavyweight, after knocking out the former champions Rashad evans e Mauritius Shogun. This was his seventh triumph in 10 fights in the company (interestingly, his three previous defeats had been to Brazilians: Antônio Braga Neto, Cezar Mutant e Thiago Marreta). Oezdemir, who won his first three UFC fights, suffered his second consecutive defeat, seven months after being knocked out by Daniel Cormier in the title fight for the under-93kg category.
“I wasn't expecting his low kicks, my legs are hurting a lot now. I think that's what I told you, the first rounds are going to be tough, because he's very tough, very explosive. I knew that the definition would come a little later, as the fight went on. I've been fighting since I was 17, I've faced so much adversity, the only thing I've been waiting for all these years is to be here in this octagon and ask Dana and the matchmakers: My name is Anthony Smith and I want a chance at the belt”, declared the winner, in an interview still in the Octagon.
The fight
Volkan started the duel with a low kick to Smith, who surprised by trying to take down the Swiss, without success. The fight was locked in the cage, until the Swiss decided to 'turn on the machine gun' and fired a barrage of blows at Smith, who absorbed them well. With a larger wingspan, the American connected two good jabs and a cross on Oezdemir, who was not intimidated and continued walking forward, but was hit by a finger in the eye, interrupting the fight for a few moments. Volkan came back from the break even more aggressive, attacking with a flying knee, without much effectiveness, followed by pressure on the fence, which lasted until the bell sounded.
The two fighters returned to the second round looking for the fight, with the advantage going to Smith, who blitzed the Swiss, which he felt. With his opponent getting the better of him on his feet, Volkan fell and fell on top, hitting him in the ground and pound. Volkan got behind the American's back, who stopped the fight by holding his rival's hands throughout the final stretch of the round.
Physically worn out, the pair started the third stage with the handbrake on, with no effect on either side. It was only after the second minute that Smith landed a powerful cross followed by a knee in the clinch, blows that shook Volkan, who was already showing greater fatigue. Smith surprised and applied a good takedown, falling and going to Volkan's back. Quickly and efficiently, Smith fitted the choke very tightly and forced Oezdemir to give up three taps.
McGregor's friend is defeated by Michael Johnson

Personal friend of Conor McGregor, featherweight Artem Lobov definitely didn't match the talent of his Irish training partner. Facing Michael Johnson In the second most important attraction on the card, the Russian-Irish was dominated for three rounds and suffered his third consecutive defeat, the fifth in six fights in Ultimate. The result made Lobov further increase his negative record, now with 15 losses and 13 wins as a professional. Johnson, in turn, won his second in a row, after losing three in a row.
Johnson won the first round without much difficulty, taking advantage with good movement and striking, which left Lobov unanswered. The second stage was more of the same, with The Menace landing good blows on McGregor's friend, who showed a slight improvement, but not enough to gain an advantage. The film was repeated during the final round, with the American winning technically, more effectively than Lobov.
