UFC President believes Ferguson deserves to be Khabib's next rival

After ruling out a rematch with McGregor, Dana White admitted that 'El Cucuy' deserves his shot at the lightweight belt

A rematch between Khabib Nurmagomedov e Conor McGregor has been speculated after the Russian submitted the Irishman in the main fight of UFC 229. However, in an interview with the North American channel ESPN, the president of Ultimate, Dana White stated that this is not the organization's current plan. With this, the franchise commander admitted that Tony Ferguson deserves to be the next challenger for the lightweight belt against 'The Eagle'.

“I didn't even think about a [McGregor] rematch. Obviously, I know Conor wants a rematch. We need to do what is right and what is fair. Tony never lost the [provisional] belt in a fight. Neither did Conor, but Conor had the opportunity to actually fight [Nurmagomedov]. I think Tony deserves the next chance,” White explained.

With rumors of a potential boxing fight between Khabib and Floyd Mayweather, the UFC president assured that the fight is not being planned. “Don’t pay attention to these [rumors. First, Mayweather's team didn't approach us. Khabib is under contract with the UFC; we haven’t spoken to anyone on the Mayweather team,” Dana said.
