Three Brazilians participated in the preliminary card of UFC 229, an event held this Saturday (06) in Las Vegas. And the final balance was positive for the country with two victories and just one defeat. The Brazilian Vincent Luque presented his business card to the newcomer jalin turner and knocked him out in the first round. Jussier formiga in a tactical fight he beat Sergio Pettis on points and was close to the flyweight belt. On the other hand, Alan Nuguette was knocked out by scott holtzmann in the third round.

The fight that closed the preliminary card of UFC 229 brought the Brazilian face to face Jussier formiga, number five in the flyweight division, against Sergio Pettis, second in the rankings. And in a tactical fight, without any gaps, the Brazilian left the Octagon with victory in the unanimous decision of the judges (30-27, 30-27, 30-27). With the triumph, the Brazilian achieved the 22nd positive result of his career and challenged the category champion, Henry Cejudo. The North American was coming off a victory and added four defeats to his record.
“I accept a rematch with Cejudo in December. I hope it will be a great fight and I want to win the belt”, said Formiga in an interview with the Combate channel after the victory.
The athletes begin the fight studying each other in the center of the octagon. The Brazilian closed the distance and landed a direct shot on his rival's face. Formiga exploded and connected a sequence of frontal blows on his opponent. In response, Sergio threw two kicks to the waistline and one to Jussier's guard. The fight remained ineffective for both fighters. In the final moments, the Brazilian managed to catch Pettis' legs and put the fight on the ground. From above, he threw blows to his opponent's ribs and head. The North American was unable to get his back off the ground until the end of the partial.
The second round started like the first, with the opponents cautious and studying the best way to attack. The fighters threw blows, but to no avail. Pettis was more careful, as he didn't want Formiga to put him down again. With the lack of combativeness, the crowd began to boo. However, afterwards, Jussier put the fight to the ground with a takedown. The Brazilian remained standing and worked with punches from above, but Pettis closed his guard well. The Brazilian worked the position until the bell sounded.
The Brazilian started the last round attacking with a straight right. However, Sergio's counterattack was strong. Not wanting to risk fighting on the feet, Jussier managed to lock his rival's leg, grabbed it and put pressure on it. With his back free, the Potiguar stopped and backpacked his opponent. So, he stabilized his position and worked with punches to the face, waiting for the best moment to land the submission. The Brazilian insisted on applying the choke, but his rival didn't give any space. However, he was unable to get out of position until the end of the fight.
Luque wins third in a row
Vincent Luque lived up to his nickname 'Silent Assassin' and knocked out jalin turner at 3:52 in the first round. Thus, the Brazilian won his 10th victory in the 1st round and third victory in the sequence.
The fight started with the fighters studying each other in the center of the octagon. Luque started by taking the initiative and landed a straight right that threw his opponent into the cage. With more effective strikes, the Brazilian loosened up and grew in the fight. The Brasilia native punched Turner in the front, who hit the fence and came back. The North American tried to respond with a spinning elbow, but the Brasilia native defended. With 'Tarantula's' guard down, the Cerrado MMA athlete landed a strong blow that knocked his opponent unconscious to the ground. Thus, the referee declared the end of the fight.

In the third fight of the preliminary card, the lightweight, scott holtzmann knocked out the Alan Nuguette at 3m42s of the third round. The North American, who has never been submitted or knocked out, remained immune at the event in Las Vegas. Thus, 'Hot Sauce' wins its third consecutive victory in the organization. Now, the Brazilian who was looking to enter the TOP 15 of the category has his second defeat in his professional MMA career.
The duel started with the two studying each other in the center of the octagon, without much effectiveness. However, the Brazilian managed to land a kick to the waistline. In response, his opponent hit his rival squarely in the face. Holtzman tried to find the distance to hit his opponent and landed a low kick on Alan who shook when he felt the blow. Nuguette tried to attack, but Scott worked well on the counterattacks. This put 'Hot Sauce' at an advantage in the round. The MMA Lab athlete again landed a kick on Patrick's supporting leg, which caused him to lose his balance and fall to the ground. Thus, the former XFC champion used the advantage well and worked on top. However, the Brazilian tried to defend the attacks with his legs. Without more time, the first round came to an end.
Alan returned for the second stage trying to recover, so he shortened the distance and met his rival's face, but to no avail. In response, the North American threw a high kick towards his opponent. Nuguette used his jiu-jitsu and tried to take the fight to the ground by diving into the American's legs. However, he hit the ground and got back on his feet. Next, Alan managed to lose 'Hot Sauce's' leg and tried to get into position, but with no angle the opponent managed to escape. With the fight standing, Scott easily placed the Brazilian on the fence. At the end of the second round, Patrick tried his last attack on Holtzman, but couldn't find him.
Nuguette started the third round trying a high kick to the North American's guard. However, Scott found the Brazilian's timing and anticipated his blows. Alan let his guard down, so he received a hard counterblow and fell. Upon realizing the advantage, Holtzman crushed Patrick to the ground. On top of that, 'Hot Sauce' got the mount, held his rival's face and connected countless elbows. With that, he knocked out the Brazilian at 3m42s of the last round.
