Nate diaz e Dustin poirier announced that they would compete for the unprecedented title in the 74,8 kg division at UFC 230, on November 3, in New York (USA). However, in an interview with the website of the North American channel ESPN, the president of the franchise, Dana White assured that there is no chance of a new category.

“It was never taken into consideration. You might see a lot of people at lightweight or welterweight, who aren't fighting for the title at lightweight or welterweight, saying they can jump up to 165 pounds to fight for the title there. This just doesn't make sense. We have always kept the system simple. Boxing has all these different categories and it's hard to keep up, people don't really know who the champion is. This [the UFC system] is very simple and easy to follow. We have enough categories,” White explained.

Furthermore, White explained about the new dispute for the vacant women's flyweight title. The confrontation, originally confirmed in December, would put face to face, Valentina Shevchenko e Joanna Jedrzejczyk. The duel was transferred and promoted to the main one at UFC 230. The Polish woman was replaced by sijara eubanks.

“When we moved earlier, Joanna wasn’t ready. Valentina doesn't care. She would fight tomorrow. She wants to fight every month. So, it made sense. We made sure Eubanks was on weight. Sijara is close to weight, Valentina is an animal and wanted this fight. A fun fight”, clarified Dana.
