Returning to his origins, Serginho Moraes submits Ben Saunders at UFC São Paulo

With a beautiful katagatame, Serginho finishes again in the UFC; Mayra Sheetara and Augusto Sakai also win

Serginho Moraes promised and fulfilled! The jiu-jitsu black belt, three-time world champion, returned to his origins in the gentle art. The fighter from São Paulo showed all his skill on the ground and submitted Ben Saunders with a katagatame at 4m42s of the second round. The duel was an attraction on the preliminary card of the UFC Sao Paulo, held this Saturday (22), at the Ibirapuera Gymnasium.

The fight

Willing to put his jiu-jitsu into practice, Serginho didn't want to waste time. He quickly took down his rival and worked on top. With a lot of technique, Moraes advanced in positions without giving space to his rival. The São Paulo fighter even tried to submit with an armbar in the final seconds, but Saunders showed good defense and was saved by the bell.

In the second round, the North American tried to avoid the ground game, working from medium distance, but when he fired the first kick, Serginho held his leg and managed the takedown. On the ground, the Brazilian showed all his worth, landed a fair katagatame and forced the North American to give up the fight.

In her debut, Sheetara submits Robertson in the first round

UFC debutant, Mayra Sheetara debuted in the octagon in style. She finished Gillian robertson with an armbar at 4:55 of the first round. With the triumph, the Brazilian remains undefeated in six fights in professional MMA.

The women's match got off to a hot start with the crowd shouting “Uh! Gonna die!". The Canadian tried to catch Sheetara's legs, but the Brazilian remained standing. Afterwards, the Minas Gerais native landed a good high kick, but her opponent managed to take her down. Robertson worked in half guard, put his knee on the stomach and hammered Mayra in the face. However, the Brazilian took advantage of a small space to get up. Soon after, Bueno lands a round kick on the opponent's waistline, who feels the pressure.

Regardless, Robertson takes down Sheetara. With the help of the fence, the Brazilian falls over her rival. Mayra manages to stretch Gillian's arm in the final seconds of the partial.

With a knockout at the end, Augusto Sakai beat Chase Sherman

Revelation on the Contender Series Brasil program, Augusto Sakai showed what he was capable of in his first fight in the UFC. The Brazilian heavyweight knocked out Chase sherman at 4:03 of the third round.

The first round of the heavyweight clash began with the North American's attack. Sherman landed a kick to Sakai's waistline, which he returned in kind. The Brazilian managed a series of blows close to the face, but didn't touch Chase, who smiled. With that, the fighters closed the distance and exchanged hard blows. The Curitiba native tried to get closer, but was elbowed by his rival. In response, the athlete discovered on the Contender Series tried a flying knee, but it was empty. However, his opponent managed to land another elbow. Thus, the first round ended.

The North American began the second round by attacking. He punched Sakai in the right eye, and the duel was interrupted for the Brazilian to recover. As the fight resumed, Chase managed to land a good combination of blows on his opponent, which he returned with his right hand. The Curitiba native was cornered and his rival threw an elbow again. Augusto applied a powerful combination of uppers and a straight shot to the North American's face, which made the movement difficult. Showing fatigue, 'Vanilla Gorilla' kicks high, but takes ages to complete the movement. Another round comes to an end.
