Dana White confirms Frank Mir was on standby to replace Overeem

Publicly, Dana White tried to let it appear that everything was going well with the main fight of the UFC 141. The Nevada Athletic Commission had called alistair overeem for a hearing to address the anti-doping test that the Dutchman had undergone and whose results had not been delivered. At the risk of having his license to fight revoked by one of the most influential state commissions in the USA, Overeem submitted himself to a new test.

Between the hearing and the result of the new anti-doping test, White was concerned about the possibility of a punishment for Overeem ruining UFC 141. The UFC president then tried to put a possible replacement on notice. He explained the idea at the UFC 141 press conference, held this Wednesday in Las Vegas:

"Frank mir it was our replacement plan. Sometimes I have to lie to you. Lying is a strong term. You know how I am. You ask me questions and I give you the answers. But sometimes I have to do what is necessary.”

Mir was last in action less than a month ago. Won Rodrigo Minotauro still in the first round of UFC 140. Luckily for the UFC, Overeem passed the new exam and the replacement did not need to be made.
