California Athletic Commission recommends that Alex Perez and Brett Johns move up classes

The athletes exceeded the percentage of weight gain between the time of weigh-in and the day of the fight, which is 10%

The California State Athletic Commission recommended that wrestlers Alex Perez e Brett johns move up a division after participating in UFC 227 on Saturday (04) in Los Angeles. CSAC executive director Andy Foster told the “MMA Fighting” website that the athletes exceeded the percentage of weight gain between the time of weigh-in and the day of the fight, which is 10%.

According to Commission data, Alex Perez he gained 16,3% of his weight back from weigh-in day to fight day, going from 57,200 to 66,450kg. Johns went from weighing 61,4kg on Friday to 71,700kg on Saturday – a 16,2% increase.

Perez, who belongs to the flyweight division, was recommended to move up to bantamweight. While Johns is in the bantamweight division it was suggested to switch to featherweight. The guidance must be followed, or fighters will have to be cleared by a doctor to compete in their current divisions.

The CSAC director stated that other fighters gained 10% or a little more after the weigh-in and were not notified to move up a category because they were close to the limit.

PUBLICITY:

Perez's manager, Jason House, stated that the fighter already has medical authorization to fight in the flyweight division. He plans to continue his UFC career in this weight class.
