McGregor admits he was 'truly happy' with Aldo's UFC Calgary win

The former featherweight and lightweight champion said it was good to see his old rival achieve a big victory

With a rivalry since November 2015 when Conor McGregor knocked out Jose aldo in just 13 seconds at UFC 194 in Las Vegas. The antagonists in three years shared a history full of conflicts and provocations. Still, after the Brazilian's victory over Jeremy Sthepens at UFC Calgary, Notorious surprised everyone by admitting that he was genuinely happy to see his old rival win.

“I was very happy for him, honestly. Seeing the joy he had after the fight… It's a crazy business, and I know he's been through a lot, so to see him come back and finish the fight, I was really happy for him and his trainer André Pederneiras. All Ireland was happy to José Aldo that night”, said McGregor in an interview with the website “TMZ Sports”.

In his career, Aldo won the former WEC featherweight title in 2009 and in his UFC debut he unified the belts in the category. After that, there were 10 years of unbeaten streak, until meeting Conor in the octagon at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. With the loss of the belt, Zé won only one in three fights. Frankie Edgar at UFC 200. Both losses were to the division champion, Max Holloway.

On Saturday during UFC Calgary, the people's champion went against the odds and surprised the public by knocking out Jeremy Sthepens at 4m19s of R1.
