As Ultimate still brokers the deal with McGregor and the Irishman also needs to resolve his problems with the New York courts, the date for the rivals' meeting has been set. Nurmagomedov wants his first title defense to take place in September or October, likely at UFC 228 or UFC 229.

Even though negotiations between UFC and Conor are advanced, Khabib is thinking about other opponents. “If they give me Conor, I will fight, if they give me a different opponent, Georges St Pierre or the winner of Eddie Alvarez x Dustin poirier, let’s go”, concluded the Russian champion.
