Olympic medalist wrestler accused of murder in the US

Former fighter Alexis Vila was arrested on April 17th in Florida (USA). He is charged with second-degree murder, gun possession and conspiracy. The athlete has not yet had bail set and must await analysis of his case at the Turner Guildford Knight Correctional Center.

As Alexis is Cuban, the Miami prison system said the fighter is in provisional custody by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement department. If he is convicted, he could be extradited.

Vila has already been in the police force, in 2004 he was accused of committing violence at an airport, when he crashed his vehicle in the Fort Lauderdale terminal. The fighter served a 3-year prison sentence.

Known as “The Exorcist”, Alexis won two world titles in the 90s in wrestling and won a bronze medal at the Atlanta 96 Games. In MMA, the fighter had a great career, playing in events such as WSOF, Bellator and Titan FC, and accumulated 15 victories, including against fighters Joe Warren, Marcos Galvão and Ben Nguygen.
